International Premiere.

The terms “social activist” and “selfless humanitarian” don’t usually describe octogenarian Playboy empire founder Hugh Hefner, but Oscar-winning filmmaker Brigitte Berman rectifies this situation with her surprising new documentary, a revealing portrait of the freedom-fighter beneath the silk pajamas. This intimate look at an extraordinary and provocative man also explores his paradox - on one hand, a hedonistic playboy enjoying a controversial lifestyle, and on the other, the humanitarian who has been a longtime advocate and catalyst for progressive change on a whole range of sociopolitical issues: racial equality, First Amendment rights, abortion rights, sexual freedom, censorship and social justice. Including rare footage and compelling interviews with the likes of Gene Simmons, Jenny McCarthy, Mike Wallace, Dick Gregory, George Lucas, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Tony Bennett, James Caan, Joan Baez, Jim Brown, Pete Seeger, and others, their voices illuminate not only Hefner, but also over fifty years of American cultural history.
